About Airtran Airways:
AirTran first began as Conquest Sun Airlines in June 1993 and four months later began its operations. In 1994, the airline was renamed as AirTran Airways which was similar to American Trans Air.

Northwest Airlines objected to AirTran entering into the jet carrier business. As a result, AirTran’s parent company and Northwest signed an agreement for the spin off to share holders of the non-airline business making Northwest part of a new holding company.
