Aer Arann
Airline Code: RE
About Aer Arann:
Established in 1970 and starting their operations shortly after, Aer Arann provided
island hopping service between Galway and the Arann Islands using a single Britten-Norman
Islander.
Pádraig Ó Céidigh, in 1994, purchased the airline. Shortly after expanding the fleets
and routes in 1998, the airline was awarded the route between Donegal and Dublin
quickly followed by the route between Sligo and Dublin.
Service to Jersey and the United Kingdom was introduced in 2002 and within two years
there was service to Lorient and Nantes.
The All Ireland Marketing Leader of the Year Award was given to the lead of Head
of Sales and Marketing, Colin Lewis, in recognition of the company's achievements.
Nex Aviation and Aer Arann entered into agreement to provide service to Faro, Málaga,
Bordeaux, and Amsterdam using a BAe-146 aircraft in 2008. Within a year, the service
to Amsterdam ended.
Due to the decrease in passenger traffic, in 2008, the airline announced an implementation
of coast savings programme. The implementation would include a 20% reduction of
staff as well as focusing on charter flights and leasing their crew and aircraft
to other airlines without changing their routes.
